Our Story and Mission
Founded by John Patterson, former General Counsel, Pattersonlegal-training was created to provide empathetic, practical contract law training that demystifies legal concepts for contract managers, procurement professionals, and in-house lawyers. Our mission is to boost confidence and skills so clients can negotiate and manage contracts effectively to enhance their business impact and career growth.

John's bio
John Patterson was an in house lawyer with a specialism in commercial contract drafting and negotiation and enjoyed a career spanning over 20 years.
His employers included High Tech aeronautical companies as well as enormous computer and media companies. The world-wide customers he negotiated with ranged from airlines to city banks and news outlets to broadcasters and everything in between.
Being in-house meant that John has had to live with the consequences of all his contracts from inception to final delivery and support and warranty. Thus giving John a very practical insight into the importance of contracts and how they can be structured and used to their best advantage in a high pressure commercial environment.
Despite ending up as a Vice President and General Counsel, John remained a hands-on negotiator enjoying the very human interactions required to get good contracts done. John’s motto throughout his career has been that he helps to ‘Close Good Contracts’.
For the duration of his career, John has always supported and trained procurement, sales and contracts teams and would like to think that he ‘speaks their language’ rather than being a stuffy lawyer.
Through PattersonLegal-training, John is looking to share his knowledge and experience with other contracts professionals so they can confidently build their experience, knowledge and career.
